Deleting a Single Header
|
You may want to have certain pages without
headers, such as those containing chapter headings. This tutorial
will help to simplify the process.
The view we are using is "print layout" at different
magnifications.

Insert Section Breaks
|
|
In order to control
the layout of your headings, you must start by inserting section breaks before
you set up the headers. This looks like a lot of work, but
really only takes minutes to do.
1. Begin by clicking your curser at the bottom of page one,
to alienate the title page
On the insert menu, click break, click continuous,
click Ok (this will add one space which may cause your document to
shift a little)
In this example, we will set up a section break before and after each
title page. Next we placed our curser at the end of the first
section (page 6).
2. On the insert menu,
click break, click continuous, click Ok
3. Click your curser at
the end of the title page (page 7)
4. On the insert menu, click break, click continuous,
click Ok
The title page on page 7 is now alienated
5. Go through the manuscript, entering section breaks
before and after
each title page.

|
| Create Headers |
|
Next we want to leave
page one as it is, so we begin setting up our headers on page 2
6. Place curser on page 2, click
7. On the View
menu, click Header and Footer
|
|
|
8. On the Header and Footer
toolbar, click Page Setup
9. Click the Layout tab
10. Select the section start Continuous, check Different
odd and even, apply to this point forward, and
then click Ok
|
|
|
11. Fill
in the header on the second page only
12. Click your curser into
the page header section of
page 3, do not type yet
13. On the header and footer toolbar, make sure that same
as previous is not clicked!
14. Now you can enter your text on page 3 into the page
header
section
15. Close toolbar |
|
|
16. Click on your next title
page, open your header and
footer toolbar (view header and footer)
17. Your page setup will be the same as previously
set in
step 10, it need not be repeated.
|
|
|
18. Delete
the text on the title page, this will delete the
header on every second
page throughout the
document, this is normal
19. Place your curser in the header section two pages up,
(this will
be the next page that doesn't have a
header). Before you type, make
sure that same as
previous is not clicked! Type in your header
20. Scroll down to the next title page and continue
repeating steps
15 and 16 paying attention to odd and
even page numbers and which headers
to apply to
each.
